What we Do

The Kapuskasing Rotary Club has proudly served the community since 1966, earning a reputation as a trusted and active contributor to local initiatives. If there is an event in town, you can be confident that Rotary is there, offering its unwavering support.

As a cornerstone of the Kapuskasing community, the club has been deeply involved in various local events, including long-term platinum sponsorship of the Kapuskasing Lumberjack Festival. Beyond event participation, the club has taken the lead on impactful community projects, consistently striving to make a difference.

One such initiative is the Kapuskasing Food Bank, which the Kapuskasing Rotary Club took over in June 2016. Under Rotary leadership, the Food Bank was transformed through enhanced professionalism, organization, and enthusiasm, reflecting Rotary's high standards of excellence. The Food Bank, conveniently located in the same building as the Rotary Hall, benefited from active involvement by club members in its day-to-day operations. Through their efforts, the Food Bank introduced personal, client-centered service, expanded its offerings to include fresh produce, dairy, and packaged meats, and implemented a system that prioritizes dignity, respect, and accountability for its clients. In June 2024, the Kapuskasing Food Bank transitioned to a separate board and now operates independently of the Kapuskasing Rotary Club, continuing the legacy of service established during Rotary’s stewardship.

The club's dedication to enhancing healthcare is another highlight of its work. Members have not only sponsored the Hospice Suite at the local hospital with a $50,000 donation but also contributed to its design and furnishing, creating a welcoming, home-like space for patients and their families. More recently, the club made a significant $75,000 contribution toward acquiring a CT scanner for the hospital, underscoring its commitment to improving local health services.

The club is equally passionate about supporting local families and youth. In 2018-2019, it secured a District Grant to provide therapeutic equipment for the Kapuskasing chapter of the Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre. During the 2019-2020 Rotary year, the club introduced a slow cooker workshop aimed at assisting low-income families, adapting the program to meet changing needs during the pandemic.

The Kapuskasing Rotary Club’s environmental efforts include partnerships with local organizations such as GREEN TK (Growing Roots for Each and Every Northerner) to develop Rotary Park, which was officially dedicated by the Town of Kapuskasing in 2019. Additionally, the club has worked to establish a series of hiking trails that connect the local park to scenic river views and a nearby waterfall, creating new opportunities for recreation while preserving the area’s natural beauty.

Youth development remains a priority for the club. Fundraising efforts like Rotary Radio Day support Youth Services programs such as long-term and short-term exchanges, as well as the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). These initiatives not only raise funds but also increase community awareness about Rotary’s impactful work.

The Kapuskasing Rotary Club is proud of its enduring legacy and diverse contributions to the community. Its members are committed to embodying the Rotary mission of creating positive, lasting change locally and beyond.
